Late Night

Gus is an awful sleeper. He wakes up often and for long periods of time.

I haven’t figured it out yet. I’ve tried a weighted blanket, melatonin, cutting out food dyes, cutting out naptime… I’m down to two possibilities: food intolerance (to something major that is in everything– wheat, corn, dairy, eggs?) or pushing back bedtime.

Both of those are difficult for different reasons and I’ve been avoiding testing either one of them. So, if anyone has any wonderful ideas for getting a 3 year old to sleep at night, let me know.

Tonight, I took a video of a piece of our conversation. I think it’s cute, but I might be biased. However, Gus also says “I so funny”, so if the kid who stars in it thinks it’s funny, it must be, right?

I think he might finally be asleep again, so yay for that.

Homemade Fruit Snacks

I made fruit snacks. Yeah, I’m awesome.

Fine, I’ll confess… 4 ingredients. You do have to measure stuff and squeeze lemons, but otherwise super easy.

Why did I make them? The 4 ingredients are: fruit(in my case, strawberries), lemons, [raw] honey, and gelatin. All of those things are awesome for you (although I won’t deny my mixed feelings on gelatin’s source).

Results: Aaron and I both like them. I’ve found myself grabbing a handful here and there throughout the day. Reed and Lena say they like them, although I packed them in their lunches, so I can’t verify. Gus also says he likes them, but won’t actually eat them. I think it’s more the squishy texture than the taste. They are bit lighter, squishier and less dense than regular fruit snacks, but they’re good!

And here’s the recipe.

Thawing Out

The weather has warmed up a bit here. All of that snow is melting, and I am happy.

Yesterday, I took the dogs out to the dog park. If you’ve ever been to a dog park most places… well, our dog park is not like that. 30 acres of fields and woods. No fences. This picture about sums it up.

I came home to find my children up in a tree. I love this. Outside, climbing, together.

Toddlers are fast. Gus especially.

This is not a wonderful picture, but he’s been doing this a lot lately. Driving his cars on the dogs. Our dogs are so good with him.

Again, toddlers are fast. I wanted to snap a picture of him giving a hug to Lena, but I could barely take it before he was gone. When I asked him to hug her again, he gave me this face.

If you’re wondering why he really needs his face wiped off, I’ll tell you one more time: toddlers are fast.
