This boy had a birthday today!
A birthday complete with dance parties…
And lots of excitement…
And a singing Crocodile Gena…
And of course, cupcakes and candles.
If he had the words, I’m pretty sure he’d tell you it was legendary!
Tuesday marked 6 months home for my littlest man. I love this kid. Love, love, love him. And he loves us. Seriously, he soaks up having a mama and a papa and a big brother and sister. One of his latest words is “kickle”, asking me to tickle him. He loves to cuddle and kiss us.
(He ran in to a cabinet.)
He loves us. He needs us. He reminds me every day… babies need mamas. This is truly a bittersweet realization every time it hits me, in light of the Russian adoption ban. When I think about all of the babies who don’t have anyone to snuggle them or “kickle” them or tuck them in and tell them “Мама любит Андрюша. Спокойной ночи. (Mama loves Andrusha. Goodnight.)”, that breaks my heart. When my baby snuggles on my lap, he is 100% my baby. But, I can’t help but think of where he once was. When I think about how there are only months separating him from being my baby and being stuck in a Russian orphanage, that breaks my heart.
But, my baby’s here. Celebrating 6 months this week. We’re loving life together.
But, I’m also asking you to join us in prayer for the thousands of Russian orphans who will be left behind if this ban stands. I’m asking you to pray that the hearts of politicians in power soften and the truth is known– that for thousands of children, there is no hope for them in Russia and they deserve the love of a family.
We had a long week. My computer is dead, so this will be the last of my new photos until it is working again. Except for maybe camera phone photos.
These photos were actually taken on Reed’s birthday, but I thought I’d keep his birthday posts all about him.
Lots of my Facebook friends have been asking to see more of Lena’s hair.
This sweet girl told me yesterday that she was “sad at” me and didn’t like me. We’ve moved on, but I was at least proud of her for expressing her feelings in words.
Gus is my man, as always. Have I ever mentioned that he and Aaron fight over me? He will scream if Aaron kisses me and if I’m holding him, he’ll push Aaron away. They’re buddies any other time, but Gus is certain that I’m only HIS.
One of his new behaviors is cupping my face in his hands and saying “mmmm” or gently stroking my face. Very, very sweet. But alas, he’s 23 months old, so he also unexpectedly slaps me or headbutts me. Which to him is totally hilarious.
Now that he’s 6, Reed has decided to take up day trading and here he is, on the phone with his broker. Just kidding, but he is on the phone with his Deepa, my dad, so it’s very possible Deepa is planting the seeds.
And, that’s all for now.

Reed turned 6 today!
One of our gifts to him, a soccer goal and ball.

He clapped when he opened up his present from his grandparents! He then played with it for 2 hours, until we had to pull him away for dinner.
He had a great birthday. He loved each of his gifts and took time to play with them. He was incredibly sweet about everything. After he was done with his cake, unprompted, he told me “Thank you for making me a Spiderman birthday cake.”
Reed at on his 4th and 5th birthdays:

Reed, it was so much fun to celebrate with you today. You have grown up and changed a ton in the past year. You became a big brother again, you started school and you lost your first tooth. You are speeding through life, but you are never one to slow down! I love your energy and determination, even if it sometimes is a challenge for me to keep up with you. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings for you. Happy 6th birthday, Reed! Love, Mama
