Mr Cute Overalls and the Girl

Gus had on the cutest overall shorts from his cousin the other day. I had to take a few photos.

I finally got all the settings just right, he was sitting very nice and I was about to reframe it when, as fast as he could…

He laid down,

Eying me from the corner of the room was this girl, always eager to be my model.

Bliss, $1.97 for 5

We’ve been trying to do some spring cleaning around our house, but the weather has been absolutely perfect yesterday and today. So, spring cleaning went outside!

I threw Gus into the bag of leaves… I thought that would be less messy than throwing him in the pile of leaves. He LOVED it.

But, we still had work to do, so I pulled him out and gave him a brand new bag to play with.

Bliss.

And, Reed and Lena were clearly fascinated, so I gave them each their own, too.

Watching my kids enjoy something as simple as a yard waste bag, while we work outside on a beautiful spring day, makes me feel full. Go get your own bliss, 5 for $1.97

Haircuts

Both boys got haircuts recently… Aaron cuts their hair. Do NOT ask me to do it. Bad idea.

Gus’s was actually on his birthday. His hair was starting to look a bit shaggy. This is the first cut he’s had since he’s been home.

Reed just got his hair cut a few days ago. His was SHAGGY. It had not been cut since August… whoops!

Reed totally hates this. He was lecturing Gus on how it might be scary.

All done! So much better! Now, another 6 months until we do that again…

True Love

I want to talk to you about love. Surprise, surprise, it IS Valentine’s Day after all.

Last year, on Valentine’s Day, I met my baby boy for the first time. I fell head over heels for that kid and I’m still an obnoxious adoring mom, soaking up his kisses and tugs on my legs.

I love that kid. And I’ve seen how our family’s love for him has transformed him. And I’ve seen how the love of families has transformed the lives of so many once-orphans.

Love can do incredible things.

Untitled

“Мама любит Андрюша.” “да!” I say this to him often. “Mama loves Andrusha!” “Yes!,” he happily exclaims.

Love can be material. Roses that will die. Chocolates that will add to your waist line. Lingerie that will end up in the dust under your bed.

Or, love can be more. The love a mother has for her son. The love a God has for his children.

Along with my friend Jill, I’m committing to spend this lent season praying for the orphans who do not know love. That families might find them, and barriers will be shattered, political, financial, all kinds. That they will someday be LOVED.

(And disclaimer: I know I blog about Gus way more than Reed and Lena! I need to do some posts on them soon, but I had to use Gus an example since today is our Metcha-versary.)

The last of the photos

We had a long week. My computer is dead, so this will be the last of my new photos until it is working again. Except for maybe camera phone photos.

These photos were actually taken on Reed’s birthday, but I thought I’d keep his birthday posts all about him.

Lots of my Facebook friends have been asking to see more of Lena’s hair.

This sweet girl told me yesterday that she was “sad at” me and didn’t like me. We’ve moved on, but I was at least proud of her for expressing her feelings in words.

Gus is my man, as always. Have I ever mentioned that he and Aaron fight over me? He will scream if Aaron kisses me and if I’m holding him, he’ll push Aaron away. They’re buddies any other time, but Gus is certain that I’m only HIS.

Untitled

One of his new behaviors is cupping my face in his hands and saying “mmmm” or gently stroking my face. Very, very sweet. But alas, he’s 23 months old, so he also unexpectedly slaps me or headbutts me. Which to him is totally hilarious.

Now that he’s 6, Reed has decided to take up day trading and here he is, on the phone with his broker. Just kidding, but he is on the phone with his Deepa, my dad, so it’s very possible Deepa is planting the seeds.

And, that’s all for now.
