30 Days of Thankful: Day 17

Today, I’m thankful for the sweet kiss that woke me up this morning. Gus sleeps in a crib in our room, but I bring him into bed with us whenever he isn’t feeling well or can’t sleep. This morning he was up a bit early, so I brought him into bed with me. We went back to sleep for a bit and then I woke up a couple of hours later a kiss from him. Which turned into an attack of kisses when I smiled at him. Some sweet and gentle and a little too wild, but it was a very sweet way to wake up.

Yes, I already was thankful for this kid, but I can’t limit my thankfulness to just one day. And, it really was the best part of my day.

Today, I’m thankful for my camera. It’s not an essential by any means– it’s a big luxury. But, I love using it. Dumping all of the photos off of my camera at the end of the day is something that I always look forward to. It can help me erase the yucky parts of my day and help fill them with the things I want to remember.

Someday, Gus will stop giving me this smiley stink-eye at mealtimes. And believe me, I want to remember it. It’s a warning for what’s to come.

Here are some photos from our ordinary day, but I had so much fun looking at them. None of them were anything like I wanted when I took them, but they were so funny all strung together.

30 Days of Thankful: Day 15

Today, I’m thankful for all of the sweet moms who have helped me become a better parent. Who have offered advice when needed, who have encouraged me and just listened when I needed it. I’m thankful for all of the people who have told me, “that sounds hard.” “You are doing a great job.” “I’m happy to listen.” “I love your kids.” Et cetera. Just sweet wonderful that have helped me through frustration and encouraged me to be a better parent.

This blog post really challenged me today. I hope you’ll take the time to read it!

30 Days of Thankful: Day 14

Today, I’m thankful for a warm house. Sometimes, I just want to see what’s wrong with our house and what I’d like in our next house, instead. But, today, I’m remembering to just be thankful that we have a house and one with heat and working appliances, etc. Our house really is enough, even if the temptation often pushes me towards wanting more… although I’ll still admit that having 2 bathrooms with 5 people in the house sure would be nice!

30 Days of Thankful: Day 13

Today, I’m thankful for Lena. Lena is remarkably sweet. I rarely see her get mad at someone for longer than the pain they inflicted. Gus pulls her hair, and she gets upset just until I unclench his fist, and she moves on. Reed calls her a name, and she shrugs it off like nothing. When I compliment her, she always says “yes.” “You are pretty.” “Yes.” “You are a good big sister.” “Yes.” I occasionally remind her that “thank you” is the polite thing to answer, but truthfully, I think we should all take compliments a bit more like Lena, “yes.”

She has handled being the middle sister so well. She plays with Gus very well and is always patient with him. She and Reed are great friends, too.
